doily into bag - part 1

if you like to make shopping bags, then i have an idea and a pattern for you.

for the bottom i used a pattern for a doily and the rest of the bag is my own design. the blue bag has a slightly different size than the white one.

materials
- white bag: cotton 8, 4 skeins, hook size 3 mm
- blue bag: phildar phil crochet, 4 skeins, hook size 2.5 mm

white and blue: the straps of my bags are thin but if you want to make them wider and stronger you need 5 skeins

stitches
ch, ss, dc, tr, dtr

sizes
- white bag: bottom about 21 cm, height without the handles about 30 cm, handles height about 11 cm, width at its widest point about 42 cm
- blue bag: bottom about 28 cm, height without the handles about 30 cm, handles height about 18 cm, width at its widest point about 52 cm

download and notes
first thing you need to do is download the pattern for the doily to make the bottom of your bag, just click on the link for the pdf document.

note 1.

crochet the pattern without the edge, row 12 is your last row, you have 48 3 dc groups and 48 1 ch spaces.

note 2.
what you see in the green circle is how to begin and end each row. i've done it slightly different, each row i started with 2 ch instead of 3 and i attached the last stitch of a row to the 2nd dc of the previous row (just skip the beginning ch). then ss to the next 1 ch space. i think the result looks neater this way.

important is that you do attach the last stitch of row 12 with a ss in the top of the starting chain, because you need that stitch for the rest of the pattern.

note 3.
the blue bag is wider so therefore you need to increase the bottom by repeating row 7 and 8, row 9 - three times, row 11 and 12. you have 96 3 dc groups and 96 1 ch spaces.

it looks like a wobbly pancake, but don't worry just continue with part 2 of the pattern.

how to make the rest of the shopping bag?
