how to make the blanket
for the squares i used a pattern available on flickr but the basic granny square is a good alternative. i have crocheted the squares together with contrasting color yarn, which gives a bit the effect of embroidery stitches, nice but it was a lot of work. joining as you go is a much faster option. with the wrong sides of two squares together attach the yarn with a sc in the 1 ch space of a corner, 3 ch, sk 4 dc, 1 sc in de space between the 4 dc en the next 3 dc, (3 ch, 1 sc between next two groups of 3 dc) 3 times, 3 ch, sk 4 dc, 1 sc in 1 ch space, 1 ch, 1 sc in the next 1 ch space of the corners of the next two squares. repeat this for the whole blanket. it will look like this after weaving in the ends.
